a place for everyone

I see housing as a human right, and a core part of the County's mission is ensuring that everyone can live a great life here.

We need to do more to make sure everyone can live and thrive on the East Side, make homes here, and keep their homes.

We need accessible, direct resources for people in acute need. We also need policies and plans that specifically address our current disparities of opportunity. And ultimately, we need to tackle affordability head-on so that the East Side can truly be a place for all.

The bottom line is this: If we don't manage escalating cost of living successfully, we will not achieve equity of opportunity.

a future for everyone

We have beautiful and critical natural resources here, and I will work to enhance and safeguard these.

Where there are risks to our water and air, I will push the county to be transparent about these and to make the required investments to mitigate them.

(Example: The landfill for the entire county is here on the East Side. We need to actively make sure impacts are clearly articulated and handled.)

Everyone needs water and air; if we do not protect these, nothing else matters.

opportunity for everyone

Opportunity and safety go hand-in-hand.

We can make our communities safer and stronger by addressing disparities in opportunity and by making the East Side a place where everyone can live a great life.

I want the City and County to work together on:

  • Directly addressing opportunity disparities in areas such as home ownership and public transportation.

  • Funding education and mentoring, expanded recreational amenities, support for new and small businesses, and violence prevention programs.

  • Ensuring that City and County budgets serve the East Side equitably.

To get it all done, we’ll need open communication about what is working well and where we need to do more. This means talking to my neighbors regularly, working with neighborhood associations & community leaders, and close collaboration with the City.
