Defending abortion access
Last week, my colleagues Supv. Sarah Smith, Supv. Cecely Castillo, and Supv. Analiese Eicher penned an open letter calling upon local District Attorneys, Sheriffs, and Police Chiefs to not use their resources to investigate or prosecute individual health care decisions like accessing abortion care. Over 60 local elected officials from every region of Wisconsin added their names to join our call. I am honored to be one of them.

On a related note, the Board adopted 2022 RES-024, which affirms our commitment to protecting abortion access in Dane County and across the state. This step is mainly symbolic, but nevertheless important—it states in writing, for the record, that we support safe, legal access to abortion in our County while abortion access is under direct threat at the State and Federal levels.
A 17-year-old Madison high school student prepared the resolution with help from Supv. Castillo, and she gave strong testimony in its favor when the Board took it under consideration. I was proud to support her hard work—and the important cause of abortion access in Dane County—by sponsoring and supporting this resolution.
