Landfill odors update

Over the week before Labor Day, a number of residents in the Elvehjem and East Buckeye neighborhoods noticed some odors potentially attributable to the Rodefeld Landfill. Dan Collins (Elvehjem Neighborhood Association president) and I jointly escalated this concern to Waste & Renewables leadership, who conducted an investigation on Thursday and Friday of last week.

Although the investigation did not identify a root cause, Waste & Renewables staff did make some proactive adjustments to increase vacuum at some locations. They’re also in contact with me on an ongoing basis so that they’re made aware of any concerns from District 17 residents.

Filling out the form is key because the form captures structured information about each incident, and this is used for monitoring and ongoing investigations.
